It looks simple, but I can imagine the huge amount of work behind it. I like the depth of the controls. The boat is slowly moving forward, thus I don't feel it moving enough. Not in a speedway of speaking, but more in the feel. Are you planning to work on it and update it later?
I must admit that simplifying the real physics of a boat — combining hydrostatics, dynamics, and aerodynamics (sailing upwind) — has been a challenge, and still is! I need to refine the boat itself, because even though what’s displayed is just a cube, under the hood the engine actually takes into account the waterline, the hull length, the sail efficiency, etc.
I think I’ll “cheat” a bit on the speed by making the boat move faster than the real calculated speed, and also by tweaking the FOV. Do you have any knowledge of sailing, especially points of sail? Because with good sail trim, you can actually go quite fast.
I started developing this little sim because I have a small sailboat and sometimes I felt a bit lost. I wanted to build up instinct and confidence safely in front of the PC ahah 😃
I’ve updated the demo — there’s a bit more wind now, and it changes direction from time to time. Don’t hesitate to check the help section to learn how to set the sails ⛵️
I’m already working on a version with a boat configurator, a regatta system, and a multiplayer mode with voice chat if I can pull it off 😃

Thank you very much for your feedback :D

Yea, I like the realistic approach, actually! I can imagine the amount of work and the physics behind it, even though I know nothing about physics.
I have no knowledge of sailing at all, that's why I wanted to try it. I like games that can teach you real things IRL.

That's a good inspiration to get from
I will try it from time to time, thank you for updating it!
